Blondie is a 70's band not an 80's band and in my opinion the second greatest rock group in the history of music. Beatles being number one.
Penton's "Apocalypse Delayed" was a masterpiece and great work of schoralship. I am looking forward to reading his book about Jehovah's Witnesses and the Third Reich.
I was not impressed with many anti-Witness books such as, Visions of Glory or Thirty Years as a Watchtower Slave.
I cannot imagine that someone could read Crisis of Conscience and not be convinced of the sincerity, humility, complete absense of malice and truthfulness of Ray Franz.

Since the FDS has supposedly existed from Pentecost 33 to the present wouldn't all the 144,000 have been chosen long before the time of Russell? During the 700 or 800's there were supposed to be a group called "fourteeners" in Latin that did not observe Easter but instead observed Nisan 14. They are looked on as possible FDS The Waldenses of 12th century Italy and France are pointed to as possible FDS. Wyclife in England and Huss in Bohemia in the 1400's and their circle are also mentioned. It is just not possible that all these people were not faithful to death and had to be replaced.
The numbers do not add up to support the 144,000 theory of the Watchtower.
The Captain and Tennille were great! I loved their music. When they were in England they offended Queen Elisabeth by performing, "Muskrat Love." She thought the cute animal sounds at the end were muskrats having sex.
John Denver was a mighty force in the 70's. Bootleg tapes of Rocky Mountain High were heard in remote Chinese villages near the Mongolian border. I did not make that up.

mind you, i know things like child molestation, rape and murder are things for which it is difficult, if not impossible, to be forgiving of.
that being said, where does one draw the line on forgiveness?
Turning the other cheek is one of the many ideas where Jesus and Christianity are dead wrong. There is no obligation to forgive. If you have been wronged by another it is completely up to you to sort out your feelings. Let it go or hold a grudge to the grave. It is your call.

Originaly Russell was the Faithfull and Discreet Slave. Russell himself would not admit it but NEVER said he was not.. After Russell's death the seventh volume of Studies in the Scriptures clearly said Russell was the FDS. Rutherford began to change many of Russell's teachings. As part of Rutherford's take over of the Bible Students in the late teens and the early 20's he claimed the WBTS through its directors were the FDS.

I agree that Mormon theology is just as arbitrary as Witness theology.
It is important to read the words on the page and use our common sense. If Jesus did talk about other sheep, it must refer to Gentiles.

The Mormon answer is the other sheep are people who were living in the Americas when Jesus spoke these words.

I honestly believed that the Watchtower Society cared about finding truth. I thought that any trouble I had with local elders was because the elders were not following the teaching of the Watchtower. When I read Crisis of Conscience I realized that the trouble with the local elders was that they WERE following the teaching of the Watchtower.

the new show was on last night, and during the discussion, he started in on religion and talked about jehovah's witnesses and michael jackson's upbringing, including no birthday celebrations.
try to catch it, if you can.
Bill Maher was speaking of the harm that religion inflicts on its adherents. As an example he pointed out that Michael Jackson growing up without celebrating birthdays caused him enormous guilt and emotional pain when he did celebrate his mothers birthday. Maher was about to make the point that Jacksons' other problems were made worse by his Jehovah's Witness beliefs, but the Baptist Congresswoman from Ohio was too upset at the idea that religion could possibly be harmfull to allow Maher to finish his thought.
